come come give me 2 cents! hahah... first time posting BnW... i need comments and advice from all =) especially the BnW elites here... tips and points if you have please =)

My first time taking a more serious approach at BnW, was just to distracted with redscales... So yeah. Shot on a Nikon F-501, Kodak BnW 400, developed at a lab. The contrast is bad huh? I'll start developing by myself soon once i get the developing tank from my uncle -_-

thanks and comments very much appreciated.

nopes~ was hoping to get filters.... but my filter thread is 62mm... gonna be costly >.<...

sighs but that also explains the lack of contrast in my photos actually.

the problem i have with #10 is that when you examine the picture... you can't really tell if it's the blue skies or darker clouds...

thanks anyway bud! =)

i like 6 and 7 for this! yup i heard its recommended that you develop bnw yourself since i read that its the easiest of the lot to do so and probably the cheapest too! anyway nice set there (:

hahaha! Kodak BW400CN, my favourite film.

Try to self scan yourself, the tones should be better. Lab scan BW400CN always cannot make it.

Can check out mine recent Kodak BW400CN roll:

Try to work with pure b/w film and find out what is best for u and stick with 3-4 type. That if u r a die hard b/w user. My 3cent.

It is alway good to know your filter. But, use it correctly. Red filter is not really good
to work on ppl. I am not a pro. Just sharing what I know here. My advice keep shooting,
read and see how the pro work. Soon u will be just like them..

what filter are you getting depends on what you shoot mainly.
Read up on Zone System
understand that in b&w there are not only just Black and White.
shoot more.
ask sumlom to teach you
he shoot alot of b&W lol

bro u don't really need filters to shoot bnw... those c41 bnw tends to look more greyscaled when scanned in the lab as they are scanning it in color mode...
just shoot more bnw and you would roughly know what you need and what you don't.. filters i would recommend getting are red, orange and yellow..

I took this picture with my expired C-41 Ilford XP-2 with deep orange filter bro invisibl3.
I find that the filter does help to bring out the detail and contrast what you think?

The biggest problem with RED filter is it is not a friendly filter for SLR and not
good for taking picture on people. But, u never know you might like red filter on people?
Personally I like green on asia skin almost the same yellow but I like green better.
There are just too much to learn and play with b&w.

guojie : Zone system is boring stuff bro. But, it's good to learn if you are crazy hardcore b&w fan.
I read few line and give up. Zzzzz...

i tried the filters with a DSLR for BnW and know quite a bit about the colour complimentary... like i know red would help with bringing out the details and contrast when dealing with skies and landscapes... i agree that filters gives you quite a added point on details side but maybe it might just kill or something else in the same picture...

double edge sword i guess.. gotta know very well what you like, or what you're looking at...

can't wait to get the tank and stuff then i'll start fully out with BnW

well i do agree filters are good to a certain extent but there are times when you can't really use them especially when you're using a manual focus slr...
good luck with your developing bro.. its really quite easy as long as you follow the steps..
