Hello,

FE and FM supports the Pre-Ai lenses (so thats a pus point) so you don't have to do conversion if you own the older lenses.

FE2 and FM2 has a maximum speed of 1/4000 (1/1000 for FM and FE i think)

Otherwise pretty similar IIRC.

FM/FM2 are mechanical cameras (shutter moves by mechanical parts ie. springs, gears, etc) so in a way, it will function without a battery (meter will not). FE/FE2 are more electronic. Shutter is controlled by electronics coupled to the meter. Shutter will only work at 1 default speed if there's no battery.

Most think that full mechanical parts are more robust and reliable in the long run. However, being a mechanical engineer, mechanical parts do fail due to fatigure (too much usage), creep, plastic deformation, etc. So in a way, I do believe in that its more to do with luck (what condition your camera is in, was treated)

gd lucks =)

I am a LOVER of NIKON FE/FM F series!

I agree and second everything Wei Hsuan said! =D

To add on. I recommend FE series or FM3A! The Needle metering is just so much easier to read then 3 LED lights. Also, better then digital readout from F3 or FA (IMHO).

To add on, the aperture piority mode is a MUST for shooter like me! I shoot mainly street! Can take a look of my streets stuff @ my facebook! ccgod_2000@hotmail.com

Lastly, if u ever wanna take a look at FE/FM/FA etc and lenses, u are always welcome to pay me a visit... but none of my items are for sales! =D

wow thanks guys for your detailed replies! anyways, i got the fm at P and G just before i saw this, but thanks nonetheless. all the shops i went down to recommended the FM because it was mechanical, they said they're seeing FEs suffering from electronic failure already so its abit risky to get the FE. my FM looks pretty good, so hope to work some magic on it eh! heheh.
